We have divided our product information into the following categories which are based partly on Medicare/Medicaid classifications:
Specialty Mattresses: Group 1 which includes Pressure Reducing Support Surfaces for patients that meet the following criteria:
- The patient is completely immobile - i.e. the patient cannot change his position without assistance.
- The patient has limited mobility but cannot independently change his position enough to alleviate pressure.
- The patient has any stage of a pressure ulcer on the trunk or pelvis.
- Patient suffers from impaired nutritional status.
- Patient suffers from fecal or urinary incontinence.
- Patient suffers from altered sensory perception.
- Patient has compromised circulatory status.
A Specialty Mattress, Group 1 (mattress or overlay) is covered by Medicare/Medicaid if the patient meets Criteria (1) or Criteria (2) and (3) and at least one of Criteria (4-7).
Specialty Mattresses: Group 2 which includes Support Surfaces for patients that meet the following criteria:
- Multiple stage II pressure ulcers located on the trunk or pelvis
- Patient has been on a comprehensive ulcer treatment program for at least the past month which has
included the use of an appropriate Group 1 support surface.*
- The ulcers have worsened or remained the same over the past month.
- Patient has large or multiple stage III or IV pressure ulcers on the trunk or pelvis.
- Patient has a recent myocutaneous flap or skin graft for a pressure ulcer on the trunk or pelvis (surgery within the past 60 days).
- The patient has been on group 2 or 3 support surface immediately prior to a recent discharge from a hospital or nursing facility (discharge within the past 30 days.)
*The comprehensive ulcer treatment mentioned above should generally include:
- Education of the patient and caregiver on the prevention and/or management of pressure ulcers.
- Regular assessments by a nurse, physician, or other licensed healthcare practitioner (usually at least weekly for a patient with a stage III or IV ulcer).
- Appropriate turning and positioning.
- Appropriate wound care (for stage II, III, or IV ulcer).
- Appropriate management of moisture/incontinence.
- Nutritional assessment and intervention consistent with the overall plan of care.
A Specialty Mattress, Group 2 is covered by Medicare/Medicaid if the patient meets Criteria (1) and (2) and (3), or Criterion (4), or Criterion (5) and (6).
Bariatric Products such as chairs and wheelchairs, lifts, specialty beds, etc.
Seating and Positioning Products which includes wheelchairs and specialty cushions.
Respiratory Products which includes Oxygen Concentrators, VPAP's and CPAP'S.
Specialty Items which includes scooters, lift chairs and other items.
